The Rotterdam based designers and artists Henk Bezemer and Frank van Oosten together form the artist duo Mishmash. Their work spans both art and interior design, such as assemblage art and painting, poster and carpet designs, unique chandeliers, mirrors, seating objects and total concepts for hospitality and public spaces.

Their theater background has influenced their work to this day.

Since 1991

Mishmash was founded after a short career in theater as actors and set designers. Because their work was soon noticed outside the theater, they decided to also implement their designs for the private and business market.

In this new area of ​​work they quickly became successful, especially with paint effects, murals and ceiling paintings.

Creating their own world..

The work of Mishmash stems from an unstoppable urge to create their own world, unrestricted by the boundaries of art and design. The Mishmash signature has always been characterized by a stylized approach in which different styles merge with a great eye for detail and finish.

Art.

In their assemblage art and paintings, Mishmash succeeds in creating artworks with personality and history. Their pieces possess not only visual aesthetics but also deeper meanings derived from the stories and emotions attached to the materials and objects used. By integrating these elements, Mishmash's artworks become more than just visual compositions; they also become carriers of stories, memories and emotions.

Interior design.

Their interior designs exude flair, combining styles and adding aesthetic and emotional value to functionality. They translate craftsmanship, traditional techniques and innovative developments into atmospheric objects and interiors.

From small… to big… to small… with major projects.

With their initiatives and long-term collaboration with people from their field, they won the Rotterdam entrepreneurial prize 'Innovation Now' in 1997. This led to the founding of the large interior store “Groeten uit Rotterdam” in 1998, alongside several Rotterdam entrepreneurs from the fields of design, interior, and art.

At that time, Mishmash was often found in art and design magazines, newspapers, on the internet and in various residential programs on television.

However, since 2003, Mishmash has been operating independently again. They started a new studio and gallery in the center of Rotterdam, where they continue to work on their art and interior designs to this day.

Mishmash's art has also been featured in various leading galleries such as Bob Smit Gallery in Rotterdam and Rademakers Gallery in Amsterdam and of course at all kinds of art fairs and art events. 

After 10 years of experience in the art world, Mishmash has decided to take the sales of their art back into their own hands, but they are still open to free-form collaborations!

In 2024, Mishmash launched a brand-new initiative under the name F•ART – fine art pop-up rotterdam.

From mid-September 2025, Mishmash will be leaving Rotterdam city center and will continue as a pop-up gallery and studio. Keep an eye on our socials for more information!
